Spanish Doll Convention (SDC)

Every year, the Spanish Doll Convention brings together nearly 200 doll collectors from all over Spain and other regions of the world to share their passion for a weekend magical for all people who love dolls and especially Barbie. The event is made up of different activities, such as a workshop and several competitions, a lunch, a gala dinner, a disco and a salesroom with a charity raffle. Since 2012, is held annually, except 2021 due to the pandemic, a collectors' convention in Spain known as the SDC or Spanish Doll Convention.

This year 2023, the Spanish Doll Convention will have place at the Hotel Melià Princess ***** of Madrid on 6, 7 and 8 October. All people registered for the event will receive an e-mail with a link to reserve a room at the hotel with a special price, although it is not necessary to stay at the convention hotel to participate in the event.

The Spanish Doll Convention event

To attend each SDC event, you must register with them and pay the corresponding fee. If you want to participate in their contests, you must meet the requirements, follow the instructions and read the rules. Everything they do is regulated by Spanish law, if you have any questions, consult directly with the SDC.

There are two types of registration:

• The BASIC registration costs 195€ and includes:
  • Welcome kit with gifts and identification.
  • Attendance at program activities with material included.
  • Gala Lunch and Dinner on Saturday.
  • Participation in contests and raffles.
  • Convention-exclusive Barbie doll donated by Mattel.
• The EXTRA registration costs 395€ and includes:
  • BASIC Registration.
  • Exclusive limited doll of the event designed by Magia 2000.

You can pay by bank transfer or PAYPAL. The minimum age for registration is 15 years old and those under 18 years of age must attend with an adult, with the adult paying the corresponding registration free.

Both the welcome KIT and the dolls offered at the event will be delivered at the event to the person registered therein, and they cannot IN ANY CASE be sent or delivered outside of this condition by part of the organization.

Sales room

If you want to participate with a stand in the salesroom of the SPANISH DOLL CONVENTION event this year 2023, you must fill out their form, and they will respond to you with the payment methods.

The sales floor event will have place at the Meliá Hotel Princesa de Madrid (calle de la Princesa, 27) on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

The price of the Stand is 80€ and the tables measure 200x60cm. If the capacity is not full, they will give the option to add more tables depending on the space needed.

The salesroom opens for a few hours to the public so they can attend and buy what they want. People registered for the event have priority in purchases.

SDC Convention Contests

At each convention they usually have contests, for this year 2023 you can participate in a photography contest, an OOAK contest strong>and a Cosplay contest. Your participation is voluntary, you can participate in any, all or none.

SDC 2023 Photography Contest

This year's theme is Super Heroes LifeStyle.

All people registered for the event have the right to participate in this contest. Only one photograph can be sent. Both color and black and white photographs will be accepted. The technique is free, that is, photomontages, unretouched photographs, photographs made from scenarios created by the author, collages, etc. will be accepted. The reason must be a photograph in which a Barbie or Ken doll appears adapted to the theme of the contest.

You must send the participating photograph before October 1, 2023 to email corresponding, you can find it on their website. In addition to that, you must bring a printed copy in A4 or similar format to the event. That is, 2 copies of the photo submitted to the contest must be delivered, the first copy must be It will be sent by email (submission deadline October 1, 2023) identifying it with the following data: Name and surname of the contestant, title of the image, email address, etc. contact information, contact phone number and photo details. The second copy of the photograph (printed) will only consist of the following information on the back: Image title and photo details.  The quality of materials used for printing will depend on the quality of materials used for printing of the participant, assuming the risks that come with presenting a low quality impression. Participants who do not meet any of the requirements indicated in this call will be automatically disqualified.

The contest rules indicate that you must be of legal age and be registered in the Spanish Doll Convention 2023 event. Participation in this contest implies full and unconditional acceptance of these general rules. Recognition as a valid participant is subject to compliance with the requirements.

The Organization will discard Only those photos that do not meet an essential minimum of quality or that could be in bad taste or offensive to the protagonists of the image. This prior selection process will be carried out in the shortest possible time.

As a detail regarding the rights of the images, the participant accepts that his/her photograph will be visible on the official website of the Spanish Doll Convention, as well as on the official website of the Spanish Doll Convention as well as on their contest social channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, etc.). The Organization of the Spanish Doll Convention will not use These images are for commercial purposes, but if necessary, they can be used to advertise the event. In addition, the ACBE will have the right to publish the works presented for life, without said use conferring the right to remuneration or any benefit.

Two prizes will be awarded: 1st; and 2nd prize. The winners will receive a Barbie doll from the Collector/Signature line each as a prize.

Each accredited attendee to the event will receive a ballot in which you can write the number of the photo that you consider worthy of the prize. It will fail the winner after counting all participating votes.

The award ceremony will take place exclusively in the same act and directly to the winner.

OOAK SDC 2023 Contest

This year's theme is "Villain Haute Couture", with the judgment assessing the fit of the work to the theme.

The choice, combination and use of materials is free and will be the responsibility of the participants.

To take into account: In no case will the works have been the subject of a competition or exhibition previously. In no case will the Organization charge for transporting the dolls to the hotel.

Two prizes will be awarded: 1st; and 2nd prize. The winners will receive as a prize a Barbie doll from the Collector/Signature line each.

SDC Cosplay Contest 2023

For the Cosplay contest, you only need to come dressed as your favorite Barbie.

After a small parade, the rest of the attendees will vote and if you are among the top 3 strong> most voted, you will receive a gift.

In the event that your Cosplay has already been chosen by someone else, they will notify you in case you want to modify it.

To participate you only have to fill out the form on their website indicating your name, registration number and your Cosplay.

SDC 2023 solidarity project

The Spanish Doll Convention, the largest Barbie event in Spain, once again collaborates with the Aladina Foundation (aladina.org/) to help children with cancer, organizing a charity raffle/auction whose proceeds will be donated entirely to the foundation.

People interested in collaborating must contact the organization at the convention email before September 15, indicating where they will participate. Your donation consists and, if possible, attaching a photo. If you have questions or doubts, you can email them to the convention email.
