Stardoll By Barbie

Stardoll is a browser game by Glorious Games. One of the largest online fashion communities in the world, Stardoll has reached over 400 million users as of January 2016.

History

Stardoll first appeared as a personal paper doll website from Finnish creator and enthusiast, Liisa Wrang. Inspired by a childhood passion for paper dolls, Wrang began drawing dolls and accompanying wardrobes and taught herself web design. Her personal home page quickly became a popular destination for teenagers. In 2004, with the help of her son, she updated the site and called it Paperdoll Heaven.

In 2005, Stardoll was released as a browser game under CEO Mattias Miksche. The game was incredibly successful and served as a starting point for some of the top performers in Sweden's tech industry, such as Spotify founder Daniel Ek and Lifesum co-founder Marcus Gners and Henrik Torstensson.

In November 2011, Stardoll partnered with Mattel to launch a Stardoll line of Barbie dolls. The "Stardoll by Barbie" collection included eight fashion dolls, based on four of Starplaza's most popular Stardoll virtual stores. Inspired by Stardoll's avatars, "Stardoll by Barbie" dolls came packaged to reflect Stardoll's poses.

In May 2016, Stardoll celebrated its 10th anniversary. Also in 2016, Mattias Miksche bought out his investment partners and placed Stardoll in the hands of gaming industry veteran Thomas Lindgren. "He knows everything about the gaming industry and was the first person who helped me understand that Stardoll is a gaming company," said Mattias Miksche of Thomas Lindgren. Miksche now serves the company as interim chairman of the board.

Under new management, Stardoll AB changed its name to Glorious Games Group AB and has expanded its offerings to include Stardoll, the Stardoll Stylista mobile app and the fashion retail and social media app and website Clique.

Glorious Games

Glorious Games Group AB started in 2005; when the company was known as "Stardoll AB" and focused on a single product: Stardoll.com.

Glorious Games is focused on creating safe and entertaining games for young women, an audience often overlooked by the gaming industry.

Led by CEO Thomas Lindgren, Glorious Games has expanded its offerings by creating two mobile apps: Stardoll Stylista and Clique, a social marketplace.

Stardoll Stylista

Launched in 2016, Stardoll Stylista is a mobile app available for iOS and Android. The game allows users to create and customize an avatar using beauty and fashion options. The avatar then follows a career path to become a world-famous stylist by styling the avatars of friends and other players for various social and professional events. Users also vote on various beauty and fashion styles by submitting their avatar to a daily competition.

The game is free, but offers in-app purchases.

Clique

Clique is an app and website offering social and safe fashion resale launched by Glorious Games.

The Clique app connects users with similar fashion interests and allows them to create cliques, membership groups for buyers and sellers interested in similar styles or fashions. Users can create and lead a Clique group and receive a percentage of items sold within their group. The system is designed to offer sales incentives and the potential for microbusiness development to active users.

Stardoll By Barbie

The Stardoll doll series was developed in 2010 based on the characters of an online game based on the concept of a paper doll. Users can dress dolls using a variety of tools and participate in interactive activities.

In 2011 Stardoll and Mattel released the Stardoll line of dolls and accessories for Barbie exclusively in the USA, it was never marketed in Spain.

The "Stardoll by Barbie" collection included eight fashion dolls, based on four of Starplaza's most popular Stardoll virtual stores. The dolls were inspired by Stardoll avatars and came packaged reflecting Stardoll's most popular poses.

The dolls:

  • Pretty N Love
  • Pretty N Love (AA)
  • All Dolled Up
  • All Dolled Up (AA)
  • Bonjour Bizou
  • Bonjour Bizou 2
  • Fallen Angel
  • Fallen Angel 2

Accessories:

  • Accessory Pack 1
  • Accessory Pack 2
  • Accessory Pack 3

The size of the dolls is more or less like Barbie's Model Muse, but they have larger feet than a standard Barbie. The Stardoll By Barbie clothes look good on Barbie dolls, but the shoes don't fit them. It's not that they are much bigger, it's just that the shoes and boots are very high and don't fit them well. A curiosity is that the foot is made of transparent plastic.

The dolls' bodies are rigid, not hinged, they are not jointed. Only the neck is movable. The underwear is drawn on the body.

The makeup is very careful, it is very flattering. The tabs are painted, and the top is sewn.

The hair is soft and abundant. The hair strands are of different shades, thanks to this stitching, the hair plays in different shades depending on the lighting.

Each of the dolls has a different manicure, the pedicure is not painted, and the feet are for heels, they are pointed, they are not flat.

At the beginning, this line of dolls was a little cheaper, at around €16, and they went up to around €21.
