Black and Gold: The Perfect Recipe for the Holidays!
Rejoice! It’s time for the holidays, that special time we gather together with family and friends to celebrate. We share gratitude for the blessings of this year and good wishes for the year to come. And if you’re anything like me, one thought has been in your mind since, oh, around August... “What am I going to wear to all those parties?”
Some people spend months poring over recipes so they can cook the perfect meal, but those of us who are more sartorially inclined are looking for a different kind of recipe. We spend hours searching for a way to concoct the perfect holiday outfit!
It’s that special time of year when it seems like there’s a celebration every night. There are daytime office work parties, casual celebrations with friends, family dinners, and the oh-so-important “meal with your significant other’s family.” After sitting on the couch watching DVDs all fall, you have to actually get up and get dressed. Yay! And also… yikes, because So. Many. Outfits!
Luckily there are a few color schemes that instantly say, “I’m here to celebrate!” Black and white is classic, red and gold is traditional, and black and silver is always fab for holiday parties. But this year, the color combo that has caught our eye around here is black and gold. Is there anything as elegant as black? Is there anything as luxurious as gold? Together they’re the perfect pair to add glamour and sophistication to any holiday outfit.
Black and gold is easy to work into an existing wardrobe. Take that basic LBD (Little Black Dress) that you’d normally wear to the office party and zhuzh* it up by throwing on some golden bling – a shiny statement necklace or dangling earrings. Meeting up with friends for a casual holiday hang? Add some golden goodness to your black jeans and top with a shiny clutch or a pair of glittering golden high heels. When you want to pull out all the stops, you can hit the mall for a gold-sequined shrug or a no-holds-barred glam gown.
Black and gold. That’s my special holiday recipe this year, and it’s easy to do. It goes like this: Start with some cool black. Add a little golden heat. Wear. Glow. Celebrate!
*Zhuzh: to add a special finishing touch.
