Warhol
Barbie ascended to Musa Pop when, in 1986, she was immortalized by the famous American artist. Although Warhol made the doll's portrait, actually who wanted to immortalize was his friend, the jeweler -then - 23 years Billyboy*, Barbies collector fan. Warhol had been wanting to make him a portrait for a while, but he always refused, until one day he agreed with a condition: as long as he painted a Barbie instead because "Barbie, C'est Moi," the young man paraphrasing Madame Flaubert Bovary. The portraits of Barbie-Billyboy*, Lenin and Mao Tse Tung were the last works of Andy Warhol, who died in New York a year later. Mattel, on the other hand, did not miss the opportunity to create his own Barbie-Andy Warhol, who took the market, in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation, in 2015, in a limited edition only for collectors.
